Energy: A Multidisciplinary Approach for Teachers (EMAT)
OPB is currently in production of the EMAT website with partner Biological Sciences Curriculum Study. This five-year project will result in a six-unit teacher professional development course to enhance teachers' knowledge of energy-related concepts within the context of alternative energy. A key feature of the EMAT project is video-based lesson analysis, a method in which teachers can improve their practice. EMAT will be evaluated by teachers and content revised and improved at several stages in development based on teacher feedback. Look for EMAT online in 2016.
Carbon Connections: The Carbon Cycle and the Science of Climate
Produced in collaboration with Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS) and funded by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this three-unit online curriculum is designed to help students in grades nine through 12 better understand the carbon cycle and the science of the Earth's climate. In 2011 BSCS and OPB conducted a field test of the curriculum with teachers and are currently revising the content based on test results. The final version of the course website, filled with animations and interactive learning modules, will be ready in the fall of 2012.
